A New Ceiling
October 25th, 2008
When I was little I used to play with
Tinkertoys.
One day I was looking up
at the ceiling and decided I wanted to
touch it.
So, I started assembling the long pieces
and the wooden knobs together into a long
stick. The thing grew longer and longer
as I worked. Periodicity, I would raise it up to see
how much higher I would need to go.
Eventually, I did it.
My victory was hailed with a resounding poke.
I was smiling and laughing at my triumphant victory.
I was able to touch something I could never
reach with my own hands.
Pretty soon my mother swarmed in to see
what all the racket was about. She quickly
stopped my endeavors.
...
In a lot of ways I'm still that kid.
Only, now I reach with computers, microcontrollers, machinery,
media and mathematics.
Same old game, only now the ceiling is a bit
further away and there's no one to rush in
and stop me from reaching the impossible.
