RIP 80 Hour Bug

People ask me what my job is like.
It has been a pretty challenging experience.
But I've grown a lot since March. Ever time
things would get really tough I stuck it out
and I've pulled through. But I wouldn't lie
and claim that I knew I could do it the whole
time. I get pretty dishearten in the middle of a
2.5 week long bug. When my moral gets leveled I begin
to wonder if this is all really for me.
Would hate to give it up though.
Besides, I finally did it. I fixed the bug and
can release a working beta on schedule. And I mean,
a hair before it's due sort of on time. The kind of
on time ER doctors have to prepare for.
...
People ask me what my job is like and I know
I have a lot to tell them. But I never feel
I could do it justice. I don't think I could
convey all the absurdities of my daily working
life. They hear me harping on the benefits of
working from anywhere I'd like, and waking up
when I feel like it.
But the reality is that it is really hard
work. Think of solving a Rubik's Cube with your
mind... for 80 hours.
Yeah like that.
But it's not all like that.
Sometimes there's the thrill of research and design.
The good stuff software architects live for.
There will always be issues with code and ...
searing IE 6 style issues. Ouch.
but in the end it's all part of a job
and I'll leave a more accurate picture for
in person explanation.
